No homework required Character PDFs included Rules taught at table

Daggerheart is a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game from Darrington Press. It is built for cinematic fantasy, teamwork, and scenes that keep moving.

For a first session, the table version is simple: say what your character tries, roll when the outcome is uncertain, and Kyle will help with the rest.

Real table signal

The rules support the room, not the other way around.

These links are here if you like peeking behind the curtain. You can still arrive with no prep, choose a hero, and learn through play with real people at the table.

Want to make or remake a character?

Experienced or especially motivated players can use Daggerheart NEXUS on Demiplane to experiment with a Level 1 character. Keep it friendly to a four-hour beginner table and the courier premise.

Only printed character sheets will be provided in person. Custom or altered characters still need final table approval, also known as corporate approval after a very serious review by Management.

Daggerheart basics

The short version, without the rulebook cliff.

You do not need to memorize rules. These are the ideas most likely to make your first few turns feel easier.

Say what you try

You describe your character's goal in normal language. Kyle helps translate that into the game when dice are needed.

Roll Hope and Fear

Most risky actions use two d12s. Add the dice, add a character trait, and compare the total to the difficulty.

Fear is not failure

If Fear is higher, the scene may get tense or complicated. You can still succeed. Management regrets the confusion.

Hope is useful

Hope is player momentum. You can spend it to help allies, use Experiences, and do class-specific heroic things.

Experiences are plain language

If your sheet says something like a background, reputation, or specialty, you can use it when it clearly applies.

The spotlight moves

Combat does not need rigid initiative. The table follows the action, shares spotlight, and keeps quieter players included.

Optional: what do HP, Stress, and Armor mean?

HP tracks serious harm. Stress tracks pressure, strain, fear, effort, or emotional weight. Armor can soften incoming damage by reducing how severe a hit is.

Optional: what conditions might come up?

Daggerheart uses conditions such as Hidden, Restrained, and Vulnerable. Kyle will explain any condition at the moment it matters.

Optional: what should I remember at the table?
  • Say what your character tries.
  • Roll when Kyle asks.
  • Tell the table your total and whether Hope or Fear was higher.
  • Ask questions whenever the sheet looks like a tax document with a sword.
